LET'S EXPLORE TOGETHER
Hey Homeschool Families!
Come discover amazing habitats & learn about local species with teacher/naturalist Jessica Sheppard.
About Me
I have been teaching SCIENCE since 1994 with degrees in zoology, organic chemistry and conservation biology and a teacher's license for grades 5-9.
My professional experiences include preschool, outdoor education, DNR work with state parks in Wisconsin, museum affiliations from MA to Alaska, pre-med courses for colleges, and my own classrooms for 7th, 8th, and 9th grades in public and private schools. I have also been a homeschool teacher to my amazing kids (now -gulp -ages 17, 15 & 14!).
Where Are Classes?
We meet at a different site for each 2 hour class - your student will learn about habitats that range from Scusset Beach to Truro; from Barnstable Harbor to Pocasset and out to Monomoy! I try to show families a range of spaces that are known and unknown (without the need for town beach passes)! Some classes are also held with amazing local guest speakers from WHOI, ARC and Cape Air.
The Classes
I offer three different classes in hopes that homeschooling families will remain with me for three academic years: each level hosts unique topics and locations:
CATERPILLARS generally grades 1-3
CHRYSALIS generally grades 1-3
BUTTERFLY generally grades 4-5
By the end of all 3 years, students will have seen/learned about 42 sites around Cape Cod and had 96 hours of science class with me!
Don't forget to check the Facebook site for extra links weekly - I set up new videos or sites related to the class themes.
